Fast Forward by Victor Sanz: A Detailed Analysis for Magicians
Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of Victor Sanz’s “Fast Forward” trick, designed to help you determine if it’s a worthwhile addition to your repertoire.
Effect:
“Fast Forward” presents as a seemingly impossible feat of prediction. A spectator freely chooses a number between 1 and 10. The magician then reveals a celebrity image corresponding to that number, appearing as if it materialized from thin air. The trick culminates in a “fast forward” button press, causing the image to rapidly transform into a different celebrity, adding an element of surprise and engagement. The envelope itself is a key component, appearing empty at the end, reinforcing the illusion of instantaneous transformation.
Full Details
The core of “Fast Forward” relies on a specially constructed envelope containing a series of celebrity photographs. Each photograph is affixed to the inside of the envelope, corresponding to a number from 1 to 10. The envelope is designed to be durable and resistant to inspection. The trick utilizes a button that, when pressed, triggers a mechanism within the envelope to rapidly cycle through the images, creating the illusion of a “fast forward” effect. The envelope is made of a tyvec material, designed to be easily wiped clean and to appear empty after the effect. The magician asks the spectator to select a number, and then reveals the corresponding celebrity image. The button press then reveals a different celebrity image.
Who Should Consider the Trick
“Fast Forward” is best suited for magicians who enjoy close-up magic with a strong presentation element. Its appeal lies in its interactive nature, directly involving the audience in the selection process. The celebrity theme makes it particularly effective with a younger or more pop-culture-oriented audience. The trick’s relatively simple handling makes it accessible to magicians with intermediate performance skills. The inclusion of multiple celebrity reveals adds replay value and caters to diverse audience interests. The instant reset feature is a significant advantage for performers who need to repeat the effect frequently.
Information on How Difficult It Is to Perform
The “Fast Forward” trick is considered relatively easy to perform. The setup involves preparing the envelope with the celebrity images and the button mechanism. The handling is straightforward, requiring minimal sleight of hand. The key to a successful performance lies in the presentation and the engagement with the spectator. The magician needs to clearly explain the process, emphasize the spectator’s free choice, and build anticipation for the reveal. The button press needs to be executed smoothly and confidently to maintain the illusion of speed and transformation. The magician should be comfortable with a close-up performance and able to maintain eye contact with the audience.

This is a amazing awesome take on the classic baby gag where typically you just do the the reveal and show that it's the baby and that's that's it, but with this they name any number from 1 to 10 and I really want to highlight that this is there is no equivocate there is no counting you name the number eight EIG G HT no you count down you show the number eight on the on the list and it is the person that they name um so it really is a free choice 100% of the time
